Nintendo has officially cast Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and 16-year-old Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link in its first live-action The Legend of Zelda film, with the announcement coming straight from series creator Shigeru Miyamoto. The movie (directed by Wes Ball, written by Jurassic World’s Derek Connolly, and co-produced by Miyamoto, Avi Arad, Sony Pictures and Nintendo) is now slated to hit theaters on May 7, 2027 after a minor delay from its original March date.
Both newcomers bring some genre cred—Bragason popped up in Netflix’s Renegade Nell and the BBC’s The Jetty, while Ainsworth appeared in The Haunting of Bly Manor—and the new costume shots nod strongly to Breath of the Wild’s iconic blue and green. Nintendo promises a “grounded, real” take on Link and Zelda, and fans will get to see how these fresh faces handle Hyrule’s epic scope later next spring.
