Nintendo has officially cast Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link in its upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, announced by Shigeru Miyamoto on social media. The film, now set to hit theaters on May 7, 2027 (pushed back from March), will showcase Bragason’s Netflix and BBC credits and Ainsworth’s turn in The Haunting of Bly Manor—complete with early photos of them in Zelda’s signature blue dress and Link’s green tunic.
Produced by Miyamoto and Marvel vet Avi Arad, co-financed and distributed by Sony, the movie is scripted by Jurassic World scribe Derek Connolly and directed by Wes Ball, who promises a grounded, “real” take on the beloved franchise (minus heavy mo-cap). Nintendo’s big-screen plans don’t stop there: a Super Mario Bros. sequel lands in 2026, and an animated Donkey Kong spin-off is also in the works.
