Nintendo just dropped its biggest bit of casting news yet for the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie: Bo Bragason will suit up as Princess Zelda and 16-year-old Benjamin Evan Ainsworth takes on Link. The announcement came straight from Shigeru Miyamoto on Twitter, and the first look shows Bragason in a blue gown (a nod to Breath of the Wild) and Ainsworth in a dark green tunic. Bragason’s credits include Netflix’s Renegade Nell and BBC’s The Jetty, while Ainsworth popped up in The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Slated for theaters on May 7, 2027 (pushed back from March to give the film extra polish), Zelda is being produced by Miyamoto and Avi Arad, with Derek Connolly writing and Wes Ball directing. Sony’s co-financing and distribution means Nintendo’s big-screen debut of its most iconic franchise is in very capable hands—after Mario’s sequel lands in 2026, of course.
