Nintendo just dropped the big news: Bo Bragason will play Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is your Link in the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, hitting theaters May 7, 2027. The casting was unveiled by Shigeru Miyamoto himself, and both stars come with solid resumes—Bragason from Netflix’s Renegade Nell and the BBC’s The Jetty, Ainsworth from The Haunting of Bly Manor—with today’s pics teasing Zelda’s signature blue dress and Link’s green tunic.
Behind the scenes, Jurassic World vet Derek Connolly wrote the script, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball is calling the shots, and Avi Arad co-produced with Nintendo. Sony’s co-financing and distributing, and after pushing the date from March to May, Nintendo’s giving the team more breathing room (and avoiding a clash with other blockbusters). Ball promises a “serious, grounded, yet whimsical” take—definitely one to watch.
