Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda movie just announced its leads: Bo Bragason will play Princess Zelda and 16-year-old Benjamin Evan Ainsworth takes on Link, confirmed by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto on social media. The film, directed by Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) and written by Derek Connolly, is now set to hit theaters on May 7, 2027 after a brief delay from its original March slot.
Produced by Miyamoto alongside Avi Arad with Sony Pictures distributing and co-financing, the movie promises a “grounded” and “real” take rather than a heavy motion-capture spectacle. Bragason’s past credits include Netflix’s Renegade Nell and BBC’s The Jetty, while Ainsworth is best known for The Haunting of Bly Manor.
