Denis Villeneuve Will Shoot All of 'Dune Messiah' in IMAX

It'll be the second feature-length film to do so, behind Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey.'

Denis Villeneuve is gearing up to shoot all of Dune Messiah on full-screen IMAX 70mm cameras, making it only the second Hollywood feature to go that route after Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond hinted at the news on CNBC, and while a spokesperson confirmed Villeneuve’s team will use IMAX gear, Warner Bros. hasn’t officially weighed in yet. Nolan currently has dibs on the handful of available cameras, so Villeneuve might have to hang tight until The Odyssey wraps.

Meanwhile, fan rumors are swirling—Anya Taylor-Joy, Rebecca Ferguson and others were spotted at an F1 race in the U.K., presumably gearing up for Arrakis again. With recent casting whispers and this IMAX scoop, it’s safe to say Dune Messiah is not just happening, it’s set to be a big, widescreen spectacle.
