TL;DR
Sean Astin—the lovable hobbit from The Lord of the Rings—has officially tossed his hat into the ring to succeed Fran Drescher as president of SAG-AFTRA, representing more than 160,000 actors. He’s running with a star-studded ticket: Michelle Hurd for secretary-treasurer, Joely Fisher and Lisa Ann Walter on the L.A. board, plus David Jolliffe as second vice president.
If he wins, Astin would follow in his mom Patty Duke’s footsteps: she led the Screen Actors Guild back in 1985, becoming the second woman ever elected to that role and serving a three-year term.
