Alien: Earth Review: Noah Hawley TV Show Is a Masterful Spinoff

"Alien: Earth" brings the action of Ridley Scott’s opus to our planet, where people turn out to be the biggest monsters of all

“Alien: Earth” is a slick FX spinoff that finally brings Ridley Scott’s xenomorph lore back down to Earth, flipping the script on what it really means to be human. Set two years before the original 1979 classic, Noah Hawley’s series rolls out a dystopian future ruled by power-hungry corporations, rogue synths and cyborgs—and reminds us that humans, with our hubris and cruelty, might be the creepiest monsters of all.

At the heart of the show is Wendy, a new “hybrid” created by uploading the consciousness of a dying girl into a synthetic body. As she and her fellow rescued souls mount a mission to a downed spaceship, the series balances pulse-pounding alien skirmishes with Blade Runner–style android dread. It’s a haunting reminder that in our quest to conquer death and build immortality, we may lose the very thing that makes us human—mercy, emotion…and fear.
