HBO Max Is Back (Again)
After a brief stint as plain-old Max, Warner Bros. officially flipped the switch today—Max.com now redirects to HBOMax.com, and the existing app on both iOS and Android simply updates itself with the cheeky patch note “Same app. New-ish name. The plot twist everyone has been waiting for: Max is now HBO Max.” No fresh downloads required—your streaming library survives unscathed, but the familiar HBO Max logo is back in action.
In case you lost track: HBO Max debuted in 2020 to corral HBO’s scattered offerings, got slapped with the head-scratching “Max” rebrand in 2023, then faced universal derision (think New Coke levels of regret). Meanwhile, Warner Bros. merged with Discovery—and is now untangling into two companies, with HBO and the core studios on one side and news, sports, and Discovery Plus on the other.
