Noah Wyle is officially back on the Emmy radar after a 26-year hiatus: he snagged his first ever Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series nod for Max’s medical drama The Pitt. You might remember him as Dr. John Carter on ER — Wyle was practically an Emmy regular in the late ’90s (five straight supporting-actor noms from 1995–1999) but hasn’t been a contender since his last Carter shout-out in ’99.

The Pitt didn’t stop at Wyle’s big moment, hauling in 13 nominations in its freshman run, from Katherine LaNasa for supporting actress and Shawn Hatosy for guest actor to makeup and directing nods. His toughest competition? Adam Scott in Apple TV+’s Severance. The 77th Primetime Emmys air September 14 on CBS and Paramount+, with Nate Bargatze hosting.
