Seth MacFarlane admits he’s still tangled up in a long-running feud with Matt Stone and Trey Parker, but can’t help applauding South Park’s breakneck two-week production cycle. While Family Guy takes nearly a year per episode (making it a guessing game to hit current trends), Stone and Parker jump in day-to-day to slice through headline fodder with uncanny timeliness—case in point, their viral Season 27 premiere skewering Donald Trump and Paramount down to the day.
The rivalry dates back to 2006’s “Cartoon Wars,” when South Park mocked Family Guy writers as idea-grabbing manatees, and Family Guy fired back in 2009. Despite Trey Parker once flat-out saying “we do hate it,” MacFarlane insists the “venom” boils down to taste. Meanwhile, Parker and Stone keep pushing boundaries—so much so that MacFarlane can’t help but call their longevity and agility “incredible.”
