Seth MacFarlane says Hollywood’s menu is way too heavy on violence and dystopia these days, leaving TV shows and movies feeling relentlessly bleak. On the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, he called out the trend of “negative” storytelling and urged creators to start serving up more hope alongside the grim stuff.

He points to The Orville as his own antidote—an attempt to bring back the optimistic vibes he grew up on—and challenges the industry to balance its hard-hitting tales with narratives that inspire and uplift, even when the world feels uncertain.
