Michael Madsen, the gravel‐voiced character actor famous for his psychotic turn as Mr. Blonde in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and the washed-up hitman Budd in Kill Bill: Vol. 2, has died at 67 of cardiac arrest. Over a 40-year career, he racked up dozens of credits—from indie classics like The Doors and Donnie Brasco to Tarantino staples such as The Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood—and even lent his voice to video games like Grand Theft Auto III and Dishonored.

Born in Chicago in 1957 (and brother to actress Virginia Madsen), Michael cut his teeth at Steppenwolf Theatre before landing early film roles in WarGames and The Natural. He was originally set for Pulp Fiction but opted for Wyatt Earp instead, a choice he later called regretful. Off-screen he published poetry and photography, was married three times, and is survived by four children (one son predeceased him in 2022).
